Wood, wood-aluminium or PVC: which to choose?
There is no best material in general, only the right one for the house, its exposure and how much maintenance you want. In short:
| Criterion | Wood | Wood-aluminium | PVC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Warm and natural, suits historic buildings | Wood inside, aluminium outside | Smooth surfaces, wood-effect available |
| Maintenance | Outside finish renewed periodically | Minimal: the aluminium protects the wood | Minimal: just clean |
| Repairability | High: can be sanded and refinished | Good | Limited: damaged profiles are replaced |
| Best for | Old town centres, where regulations require wood, lovers of the material | Façades exposed to strong sun, rain and snow | Tighter budgets, almost no maintenance |

Insulation in the mountains
Agnone sits at over 800 metres and winters are properly cold. A window’s performance is measured by its thermal transmittance, Uw, in W/m²K: the lower the value, the less heat escapes. Uw depends on the frame, the glazing (double or triple, argon-filled, warm-edge spacer) and how the window is installed.
Fitting matters as much as the window
A great window badly fitted loses heat and gathers condensation. Correct installation takes care of the subframe, the sealing between frame and wall and the thermal bridges around the opening. That is why we fit the windows we supply ourselves.
Windows: frequently asked questions
How long does a wooden window last?
With a well-kept outside finish, renewed when needed, a wooden window lasts for decades. The face exposed to sun and rain is the one to watch.
Do you need a site visit to quote?
Yes: we measure on site, because a few millimetres change how well a window seals.
